Diplomas Now is a public-private partnership that helps some of America’s toughest middle and high schools ensure that their students graduate ready for college or career. With three major national nonprofits, local school districts and our funders, Diplomas Now is the first fully integrated approach that improves a school’s curriculum and instruction as it provides the right support to the right students at the right time.
In 2011-12, Diplomas Now is in more than 30 schools in 12 major cities. Diplomas Now is the only secondary school reform program to win a prestigious Investing in Innovations (i3) federal grant in 2010. This $30 million grant, plus a matching grant from The PepsiCo Foundation, allows Diplomas Now to expand and to undergo a rigorous evaluation of its effectiveness.
In addition to Talent Development Secondary, Diplomas Now includes City Year, Communities in Schools and the local schools.
For students, this means graduating with a meaningful diploma ready for the future. For schools, it means raising achievement scores and graduation rates and letting teachers teach by providing extra adults to help meet students’ social and emotional needs. For the community, it means decreased dropout rates, a better trained workforce and new generation of local leaders.
As a partner in the Diplomas Now initiative, Talent Development Secondary brings a substantial research base, as well as our expertise in programs that specialize in reforms to school organization, curriculum and school climate to make the whole school a better place for students to learn.
