Summer Institute 2018

A Tiered Approach to Addressing Chronic Absenteeism

July 9 – 11, 2018 | InterContinental Hotel | New Orleans, LA

Chronic absenteeism drives down student achievement and high school graduation rates. This is why under ESSA, absenteeism is an accountability indicator that will be reported on school, district, and state report cards. Research shows that students who miss at least 20 days per year, had lower grades and were more likely to drop out. Yet researchers found that these effects are reversible.

Learn from expert and TDS research partner, Dr. Robert Balfanz of Johns Hopkins School of Education and a panel of knowledgeable educational leaders on what can be done to reverse the effects of chronic absenteeism.

Attendees will participate in 2 days of highly interactive and engaging sessions that focus on the three keys to solving Chronic Absenteeism: prevention, identification, and intervention. Speakers will present evidence-based initiatives and the latest research in a wide range of sessions including hands-on workshops, plenary sessions, and panels from leaders at the forefront of this challenge. Given the new focus on chronic absenteeism in state accountability, you will leave this conference with a “plan of action” to address chronic absenteeism in your school, district or state.
